This Privacy Policy explains how the Veer Away app and website ("Veer Away", "we", "us") collect, use, share and protect your personal data, and the rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). By using Veer Away you agree to this policy.

In short: Veer Away helps you discover places tailored to your taste and plan group trips. We collect only what we need to make that work, we don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising. You can use the app anonymously, and you can ask us to delete your data at any time.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Veer Away is the data controller for the personal data described here. For any privacy question or request, contact us at privacy@veeraway.com.

We do not collect precise device GPS location. Maps are shown for the destination you choose, not for your own location. We do not run advertising or advertising trackers.

3. How we use your data

Legal bases (GDPR): performance of our agreement with you (providing the app and its features), our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, improving the service), and your consent where required (e.g. creating an account).

4. Service providers & processing

We use trusted providers that process data on our behalf. We don't sell your personal data.

Google Firebase / Google Cloud (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, App Check)Account sign-in, database, photo storage, backend processing and security. Data is hosted in the European Union (europe-west1).
Google Vertex AI (Gemini models)To turn your preferences and chosen destination into search queries, place descriptions and group-trip matches. Your inputs are processed to produce these results and are not used to train Google's foundation models or for advertising.
Google Places APITo find, verify and retrieve photos of places for the destination you choose. These requests are made by our servers.
OpenStreetMap FoundationMap tiles for the map view. When the map loads, your IP address is visible to the tile servers, as with any web request.

5. International transfers

Our primary data storage is in the EU. Some providers (e.g. Google) may process data in other countries; where they do, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. How long we keep data

We keep your account and content for as long as you use the app, so your profile, Trove and travel wishes remain available. Cached place data and photos are kept to speed up future results. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep it to comply with the law.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. You can edit your profile and name in the app, and remove items from your Trove. To exercise any other right, email privacy@veeraway.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in the Netherlands: the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

8. Children

Veer Away is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.

9. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access to your data is restricted by server-side security rules, and stored photos are not exposed through public, guessable links. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.

10. Cookies & local storage

The app and website use local storage on your device to keep you signed in and to remember your language and theme. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app.
